Provide independent advice covering design and purchase of new facilities, critical examination of new equipment and premises, routine surveys.

The main task of the Radiation Protection Service (RPS) is to provide IPEN workers and general population with adequate protection against ionizing radiation, ensure compliance with the legislation for ionizing radiation regulations. To this aim, RPS implements adequate procedures and monitoring techniques according to the national and international regulations and standards. Maintain exposure records for each worker for whom assessment of occupational exposure is required, recording licenses and other parameters important with respect to the radiation protection, support the control of radioactive contamination and level of exposure at workplaces involved in use of ionizing radiation.

In addition, RPS is cooperating with other public organizations and private companies in topics related to radiation protection. In particular, RPS is collaborating with the National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN) in case of nuclear and radioactive emergencies. Our commitment is to specialize human resources through training courses, to provide and disseminate scientific information in radiological and nuclear areas. The RPS organizing training courses in radiation protection, for various levels, support the education of workers and students.
